Photo CompetitionsAbout the competition

Highlander is building a gallery of images of how you use our equipment using only photographs submitted by you. Over the weeks, hopefully the gallery will build into a unique picture of the breadth and range of the application of our equipment.
The most popular pictures will form a shortlist to be judged by a panel comprised of Highlander board and staff. Prizes will be awarded for the best submission.

How to enter

Email your image to the correct address for your category with the subject line Competition Entry. Please do not forget to include your caption text, name, address, age and contact phone number in the body of your email. Only send one image with each email.

Competition categories
Entries must be submitted to one of the two themed categories:

Your photographs

  • No one may enter more than 4 photos into the competition (2 per category).
  • All images should be accompanied by a caption (not on the image) of no more than 35 characters and supporting text of no more than 500 words describing what the image represents and which Highlander equipment was used.
  • All photographs must be submitted in digital format with all the details required.
  • Please retain the original digital file for reference; it may be needed to demonstrate this is your own work.
  • Photographs with text added to the image will not be accepted (date stamps automatically added by the camera will be accepted).
  • Prints will not be considered. Any prints that are submitted will not be returned.
  • Please ensure that you print off and keep a copy of your completed entry form or email.
  • Deviation from standard photograph sizes (aspect ratios) may render your images unsuitable for display. See below for photograph size - aspect ratios and dimensions.
  • All submissions must be in .jpg format and no larger than 1.5Mb in file size, with a minimum height of 600 pixels and minimum width of 800 pixels. Submissions that do not comply may be rejected, or may not be displayed as you intended.
  • The same photograph may only be entered in one themed category.
  • You may submit more than one photograph to the competition, providing it is of a different subject to your previous submissions. Multiple shots of the same subject will not be eligible for short-listing and may not be accepted for the gallery.
  • It is the entrant's responsibility to ensure that all the necessary permissions are obtained from any people featured in their photograph(s).
  • We cannot accept any photo that shows the face of serving members of the armed forces in uniform. These images will not be included in the gallery and will not be eligible for short listing.
  • Anyone may submit photograph(s) to the gallery, providing their submissions comply with the site's Terms of Use. However, there are limits to eligibility for the competition.
  • See Entering the Competition for exclusions.
  • The closing date for entries is 15th February 2008. Winners will be notified by the end of February 2008 and results will be announced on: Http://www.highlander-outdoor.com and http://www.highlander-military.com

Photograph size - aspect ratios and dimensions

A photograph's aspect ratio is the ratio of its height to its width. If you do not crop your photographs or use your camera's panoramic setting, the aspect ratio should conform to the required standards automatically.

Please ensure all submissions conform to one of the following aspect ratios: Portrait format must not exceed a height-to-width ratio of 2:1 Landscape format must not exceed height-to-width ratio of 1:3

Please note that if your photograph is not in one of the required aspect ratios it may not be displayed as you intended, or it may be rejected.

Final judging will take place at the end of February, but we will award the runner up prizes weekly throughout January 2008.

Prizes of £50 worth of Highlander clothing or equipment for the winner of each category will be awarded. Highlander will also give 15 Colin Prior 2008 Calendars as runners up prizes. Multiple prizes can be won by a single individual.
